Starting in Reception - we have a range of opportnities for you to visit the school prior to your child starting with us. these include our weekly stay and play sessions, new parent meetings, transition days and even an opportunity to stay for lunch.

We have a buddy system in place where a child who will be in year 2 when your child starts will write to them and introduce themselves. They will be around on the visits and support your child to have a successful start to our school.

Starting in Reception - books are an excellent way to start a conversation with your child, allowing them to ask questions and talk about school. Here is a useful list of books that are suitable for Reception age children that are all about starting school.

Starting in Year 3  - If your child is joining New Mill Junior School in Year 3 there is an "Introductory Evening" during the summer term where you can find out about the school day, arrangements for lunchtimes, assemblies, etc. You can also meet your child's new class teacher.

Children who attend New Mill Infant School take part in a wide range of transition activities throughout the school year, and particularly in the summer term, to help them move smoothly and confidently from one school to the other.

As we work so closely together the childrne are used to seeing staff from the Junior school at the infants and that helps with transition.

We have a buddy system in place where a child who will be in year 6 when your child starts will write to them and introduce themselves. this child will support your child on their move to the juniors.
