Religious Education Vision Statement

Religious Education helps children to reflect on their personal values and to understand how people of different backgrounds or beliefs may share similar or differing values. The children at New Mill Schools are taught about a range of religions and learn to respect and ask questions about different religions, traditions and cultures around the world.

Across the school year we aim to make R.E. relevant by studying and celebrating real events. We believe children learn best from real experiences in order to capture their imaginations and encourage curiosity. Children exhibit their religious education in many ways, from dance, creativity, writing and role-play in order to fully immerse children in understanding a topic. This holistic and creative learning allows children to celebrate diversity and become tolerant of others’ views. Questions are constantly being asked of children whilst allowing them to ask their own questions in order to develop their critical thinking, self-belief and self-confidence. This also allows children to develop their spiritual, moral, social and cultural awareness.

''RE lessons are fun and active'''

''I enjoy RE as it is creative and RE gives me a chance to express myself.''

''RE is important because they have the chance to learn about different religions.''

''I listened to an interesting story about Judaism which helped me understand how diverse the world is and it helped me with my understanding of the world. ''

''We visited a Hindu Temple, a Church and A Gurdwara as part of our school trip. I learned more about religion on the school trip, then I did in the classroom as it brought it to life.’'

'‘We carried out a class debate in RE and had to decide if we thought that some people were more important than others and if we felt that they had more value. One of the questions we thought about was ‘Are the rich more important than others?’

''I really like class debates in RE because everyone has a chance to speak.''

''I like the learning Journeys in their books as there is always a bit that reminds me of what we have done.’'

'‘The teacher challenges us with extra questions to see what we know.’'

''The teacher deepens our learning and helps to think out of the box. It helps us to think more so we can get better at our work.''
